The above photos of me were taken in 2014. In the one on the left, I was doing the traditional Standard American Diet Protocol (also known as SAD), which recommended a carbohydrate, protein, fat ratio of 55%, 20%, and 15%. In other words, very carbohydrate heavy.
I started reading more about the low carb a la Atkins and, of course, the Paleo trend that is popular now, and I found the arguments for a low carb approach to make a lot of sense. I decided to try it for a few weeks to see more myself what would happen.
The photo on the right was taken about four months later. As you can see, I am much leaner, and I still have muscle. A lot of muscle.
This is the first time I was both lean and muscular at the same time. I could not do so on the SAD diet, no matter how hard I tried to keep my calories down. I would lose a little muscle and a little every time I did that.
The low carb approach is what we now recommend. Click on the PDF symbol below to download the concepts of our eating plan.
